Reducing our Plastic Waste

We have been learning about reducing plastic waste this term. The two simple ways we have been able to do this is making fabric bags and beeswax wrap. We used fabric bags instead of single use plastic bags. We used sewing machines to complete this task. It was the first time I've ever used a sewing machine. The bees wax wrap is easy to make. First grate the bees wax and put it into a container. Then put baking paper on a ironing board. Get your fabric and put it on the baking paper then put the wax on like cheese. Then put another sheet of baking on top. Then iron over it, hang it up to dry, done! Simple.
Both of these ideas are quick and easy and good for the environment. Looking after the environment is the main reason why we made them (and because they look better than plastic bags and glad wrap). I love this activity and I would be looking forward to do another project like this.

  1. Hi Cailan
You have done a great job here at writing about our projects that are helping us to reduce the amount of plastic waste we produce. I liked the way you clearly explained what we were doing, why we were doing it and a bit about how we did it. I'm glad you got to have a go at using a sewing machine for the first time! I am also glad that you really enjoyed these projects. Have you used your beeswax wrap or bag yet?
