Collaging Google Drawing

We have been learning to make a collage on Google Drawing. We had to use
the explore, mask and arrange tools to get our collage to come together. We
had to make a NZ bird and put it into its habitat. It was a lot of fun and I am
really pleased with my bird. Have you ever had a go at this?
I made it purple 'cause it looks cool.

Toki Film Festival 2019

                              Toki Film Festival 2019

Many Schools Entered for the Film Festival: Karoro School, Kaniere School,
Paroa School, Grey Main School, Blaketown School, Paparoa School, Kumara
School, Awahono School, Lake Brunner School and St Patrick’s School.
The storyline was about ‘our place’ and what it is. They were all pretty much
about Greymouth. There was only one where the filmmakers talked about what
we need to do for the West Coast.
The editing on everyone’s videos was pretty bad because they were all made on
free softwares like i-Movie and WeVideo. The Sound wasn’t very good in any
one of them and the wind made it all blurry. The Music was overlapping the
voice’s as well on most of them. The music was good but it cut some of the
voices out.The cut scenes were good especially with slow motion parts.
The watermark on the WeVideo ones wasn’t that big of a deal but it would of
been nice if they had edited it out.

Next Year I think in each school they should let the students decide and vote
for which film gets entered in. There should also be  junior and senior groups.

Bee Hives

What Are Bee Hives For?

Bees make their hives to store food and shelter the bees. Bees make their
hives to protect them. The bees store anything from eggs, to pollen, to honey.
When the bee hive is getting built by the bees, the bees produce beeswax
to create a strong and hard interior of the beehive. They use the beeswax
to make these perfect little hexagon shapes in the hive. They store the food
and eggs in them. These are called honeycombs.

 Jobs Inside The Hive

The three main types of bees are the worker bee, drone bee and the queen bee. When the queen lays an egg she can either lay a fertilized egg or an unfertilized egg. A fertilized egg hatches into a worker bee or queen bee, while an unfertilized egg will hatch into a drone bee. A worker bee is only female and they have all the jobs to do from collecting nectar, producing honey, keeping the hive clean, guarding the hive and making wax. For every 100 worker bees there are, there is a drone bee. Unlike the female worker bees, drones do not have stingers and gather neither nectar nor pollen. The drone bees primary job is to mate with a queen bee. After mating season the drone bee gets kicked out of the hive. The drone either dies of starvation or freezes. The queen bee is the most important bee of them all and only has one job, she produces new bees. Without the queen bee or a drone the whole hive would die out.

Our report will:

  • Bee interesting!
  • Give information about a topic of our choice related to bees.
  • Show a clear link to our planning.
  • Start with an opening statement about our topic.
  • Have at least 3 paragraphs.  Each paragraph will have an opening statement and a
  • series of facts related to that statement.
  • Include some complex or compound sentence structures.
  • Include at least one diagram, photograph, illustration or map to go with the text.
  • Finish with a general statement about the topic.

Bee an Expert

Bees are very important to the planet. Like how they can pollinate flowers and give us honey. Pollination is when the bee collects nectar by digging into the flower, but at the same time, the pollen sticks onto their skin like velcro from the male part.  The nectar then gets put into their crop. The crop is the special nectar storage of the bee. When the bees travel to another flower the pollen then rubs off on the female part to make more seeds. Then when the crop is full of nectar the bee then travels back to the hive to make honey. This is all important because without bees a lot of plants would die because there is nothing to help the pollen travel to make seeds.

Lake Daniell Recount

On Wednesday the 12th of June room one and room eight set off for the
Lake Daniel tramp. We left school at eight thirty in the morning so we had time
to get there.

It took around an hour and a half to get to Springs Junction. I went in the car group
with Nathan K, Hannah K and Jennae Topliss. When we got there we all waited for
the other car groups to get there. Walking to the lake was easy, on the way back not
so much. Of course I was a little bit tired getting there, but we had lunch at the lake
to restore all our energy.

The lake was really shallow at the edge. Around the time of tramping there the new
hut was getting built. At the lake there was also a wharf going out about 5 metres.

As soon as we got to the lake it started raining which meant we were going to walk
back in the rain. Walking back in the rain wasn’t that bad because most people were
too hot. It was two hours one way. The time between breaks doubled since we started
walking back. After half way walking back my leg was hurting so bad but I just kept
going.

We walked in to Lake Daniell because we were all learning about hypothermia and
the native around the area.
I really liked the walk and I can’t wait to do another walk like that again.

Callaghan's Ridge Day Tramp

On the 11 of april our class and room 8 went off to do the Callaghans Ridge day tramp. The day for a outdoor activity started as usual. We got our car group together and headed off. I went with my dad, Lincon, Tyler, and Ms Truman (The Principal). We went through Kumara to Callaghan. The walk started off raining but it cleared throughout the walk. Every 30 minutes we stopped for a brake. I was wearing ridgeline gear so I think it was the first time in my life when I actually wanted it to rain. When we stopped everyone put there rain jackets on and had some snacks (it was still raining). About 10 minutes after we stopped the sun just decided it would just become sunny so I got sweaty again. (2 hours into the walk) we built our shelter to have lunch under.

Lighting Never Strikes Twice

Lighting Never Strikes Twice

WALT: use adjectives and similes to describe a setting clearly.
The sunny spots turned black then purple as the lighting lit up the night sky near above me. BOOM! The second the lighting was seen I could hear the thunder strike the blade of the windmill, it shook the whole building. My ears were ringing, I felt the ground shake below me. As soon as I open the door it felt like I had my head hanging out of a car window at 120 Kilometres per hour. it tor the door off, I dived back inside. I was scared to death as I heard the blades of the windmill creek and crackle. The window on the wall beside me SMASHED open, the ghastly winds rushed in and swirled around the room. There were crates of grain over in the corner, I dashed behind them and waited. I couldn’t remember how long it was until I woke up but when I did the sky black clouds broke open and the sun shined through.

To this day I still wonder if the thunder was
the loudest sound I’ve ever heard.

Mathematical Mum Reflection

   Mathematical Mum

Our group had to read mathematical Mum. Mathematical Mum is the
main character in the story. She is obsessed with math, she uses
math everywhere. When her children need to come shopping with
her, They get really annoyed. For the kids shopping is the worst.
Every time mathematical mum needs something they always have to
work it out. So when the children get sick of math they dive out the
shop screaming.

One Moment in Time

                         One Moment in Time
One moment in time was me crashing off my bike

As soon as I hit the ground I feel the pain in my knees and legs.
My Bike goes sliding across the gravel and the stones. The back brake
on my bike snaps forward. I put my hands down to stop my head from
hitting the ground. When I stop I quickly look down to see where the
pain is coming from, it was my knee. At the time I didn’t think to much
about it because I was still shocked of what just happened. It was like
every thing just happened in a snap of a finger.

William Pike Beach Cookout

In the morning on April the 3 2019 in autumn our class (room 1) and room 8 went down to
the Karoro beach down by the tasman sea along with some of our parents and teachers.
In my group where Lincoln, Daniel, Billie and Hannah the group leader Craig Terry (my Dad)
We made our campfire down by the Watson Creek.

We Made a stick pyramid shaped fire. While Daniel and I were getting the fire ready the rest
where getting the food ready. We waited tall the fire burn down then got some simple
spaghetti into the pan for the fire to cook. While the spaghetti was cooking we were getting
the banana split and the baked potato ready. The spaghetti didn't take long at all to cook just
right so we had it quite early. The way I had my Baked potato was scrumptious: Get the hole
potato and cut rather big splits in it (leave the skin on the potato), Then cover it with tin foil.
If you don’t have a grate put it beside the fire. Leave it for about 15 minutes. If you want it
crispy you can check it every 5 minutes. After that you open the tin foil and you can put
sauces and butter on it but I didn’t. And there were no plates so I just used a cup.
By the time we had all eaten all our baked potato the banana split was ready. Raw sugar
on a banana with hershey's chocolate sauce after we cooked it.
