Stop Motion Animation

This animation is my first stop motion animation. It took 27 slides to do this. The hardest part was making the tree snap in half because I had to copy and paste the tree then crop both of them, then placed them where I wanted them to be.  I hoped you enjoy my animation.

John Paul

Thank you for being my secret buddy on camp. You did nice things without me even knowing.
I like the first car trip but not so much the last one. The first one was funny because of the
joke you made about every single driver getting their license out of a weetbix packet! It was
also funny having to stop every 5 minutes because of road works. The stop just before the rock
overpass was funny because when we were just about to drive pass the traffic light,  
IT TURNED RED! Unbelievable! Alex Actually started crying.

When we got there and unpacked we did the Squawk Squad activity. During the activity I learnt
that there was a road up the back called the School Terrace  and that it had the community
centre. Walking up and down those steps was very tiring. In the end we were able to save the
bird and be the first group to finish the activity.

Walking the tramp was exhausting! The tramp was tiring but fun at the same time. Carrying my
pack was easy. When we found that water on that dried up river I was so relieved. I dipped my
hat in it and I put it on because it was so hot. It was fun how the camp went all day, although it
did not feel like it. I didn’t like the bush bingo as much as the rest but it was a creative activity.  

The games with Gemma were fun. My favorite game was the tug of war and the soccer but mostly
the tug of war because we got dragged on the ground by the girls. I swore they were cheating.
I also liked Chuck the Dino and Huckle Buckle. Thank you for getting the ball every time it went
over the fence.

Over all, thank you for helping the APOEC (Arthur’s Pass Outdoor Education Centre) leader and
driving us there.

Descriptive Writing - Abandoned Places

At the moment in class we have been working on descriptive writing. We have been using pictures to give us ideas of what to write about. here is a piece of writing I did.

The Abandoned Sandy House

As I step in the building I have the feel and smell of Dehydration.

It looks old, but when I walk in one of the rooms I hesitate as a beam of light
shines on my face. I see the dust in the room. I touch the door frame with
ripped off door hinges then I notice the paint on the door is fairly new but lots
of moss on the walls, then I hear what sounds like a storm outside.
it was a sandstorm.

     

At first I had no Idea what it was until it came though the house
I got a shiver down my spine. It carried the sand like a storm picking up leaves.
The sand pile was rising fast and I got a grind feeling on my teeth as sand
on my face like a wave. I covered my face as the sand had risen about 3
centimetres up my body. The sandstorm started to calm down and speed away
like a person doing sprints at athletes.

Now the dust was worse as it had ever been before. I started to cough,
I was thinking that there was no point in yelling help because there was no
one available. Coughing again I thought at least the storm was over. I walked
forward not noticing my legs where buried in sand forcing my body forward,
I pulled my legs out and climbed over the sand passing the beam of light that
was starting to go dark. I climb out the door going on to the cracked footpath
looking behind me at the house saying out loud to myself
“That was an adventure”.

What Does It Look Like?

The Tui is a large dark New Zealand honeyeater bird. They grow from 27- 32 cm and weigh around 90
- 125 grams. It has a decurved bill with two white tufts on its throat that look like a bow tie.
The Chatham Island Tui are larger and have longer throat tufts.

Where Does It Live?

The Tui lives in drier and more larger lands. They are endemic to New Zealand and offshore islands.
They live in native forests, bush reserves and towns where there are flax and kowhai.

What Does It Eat?

Its preferred diet is nectar and honeydew. But fruit and insects are frequently eaten,
and pollen and seeds more occasionally.

Threats

The Tui is not threatened, but the Chatham Island Tui is endangered due to loss of habitat.

From the time of European settlement tui number decreased mainly due to destruction and loss of their
habitat. However in more recent times their numbers have increased and they are now considered secure.

Reproduction

The eggs are laid from September to January and the nest is made by the female.

Social Behaviour

The male Tui is aggressive to other species of birds.

The Tui are often found on their own, in pairs, or in small groups.

Reducing our Plastic Waste

We have been learning about reducing plastic waste this term. The two simple ways we have been able to do this is making fabric bags and beeswax wrap. We used fabric bags instead of single use plastic bags. We used sewing machines to complete this task. It was the first time I've ever used a sewing machine. The bees wax wrap is easy to make. First grate the bees wax and put it into a container. Then put baking paper on a ironing board. Get your fabric and put it on the baking paper then put the wax on like cheese. Then put another sheet of baking on top. Then iron over it, hang it up to dry, done! Simple.
Both of these ideas are quick and easy and good for the environment. Looking after the environment is the main reason why we made them (and because they look better than plastic bags and glad wrap). I love this activity and I would be looking forward to do another project like this.

3. Zealanders send 2.5 million tonnes of rubbish to landfills each year.

3. When rubbish breaks down what gas does it produce?  What environmental problem
4. does this contribute to? Rubbish produces Ch4, CO2 and N2O. Methane, Carbon dioxide
5. and Nitrous oxide. Which contributes to global warming.

4. Complete this sentence:  Everything we use is made from Earth’s     Natural    Resources

5. Explain where these resources come from;

Wood: Wood comes from trees and plants.

Metal: Earth’s crust that is mined

Plastic: Oil and other natural materials

6) How does oil form? Oil forms from the remains of plants and animals that lived long ago,
like dinosaurs.

7) What are some of the things glass can be recycled into? Countertops and tile flooring.

8) What are some of the things cardboard can be recycled into? Cardboard can be recycled
into towels, tissues, paperboard and cereal boxes.

9) What can plastic with the number 1 be recycled into? Plastic with number 1 on it can be
made into clothing.

11) What are microfibers and what is the problem with them? Microfibers are tiny fibres found
in our own clothing. The problem is that they go into the ocean via the sewage systems and
the sea life eat the tiny microfibers.

12) What is Earth Overshoot day? Earth Overshoot day is a day when they mark the date when
we have used up all their Earth’s natural resources that the earth can reproduce in one year.

Glossary - Write what these words mean

Atoms: The smallest particle of substance.

Carded: Aligned to the same direction

Global Warming: An increase in the Earth’s average temperature due to increased levels of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere

Malt: Barley or other grain that has been used for brewing beer.

Natural resources: Materials found in nature. Example: air, water, gas and plants

Synthetic: Something made by people by combining different chemicals.

In class we will be working on projects looking at issues around rubbish and what we can do to help reduce this problem.

Keeping Ourselves safe

At school we have been learning how to keep ourselves safe. Constable Jos and Terri have been helping us with this learning. Here are some the things I have learnt.

Jack and the Beanstalk Summary

Play Summary - Term 3 Weeks 1-2

For the next two weeks you are working in groups to practise and perform a
play. This is using our oral language and reading skills in literacy. Our key
competency focus is participating and contributing.

For writing your task is to summarise the main events in your play in three
paragraphs. You must plan your writing first but it is up to you how you do your
\ planning.  You must also write a fourth paragraph about your experience of
practising and performing your play.

Yr 6

I am learning to organise my text into paragraphs which begin with a main idea and contain
supporting information/detail.

I am learning to make links across paragraphs.

I am learning to use basic punctuation accurately.

I am learning to use dialogue punctuation accurately.

Yr 7

I am learning to use a range of different planning styles.

I am learning to plan my writing to suit the purpose of my writing.

I am learning to organise my ideas into paragraphs where the ideas are clearly related and where there are links within and between paragraphs.

                Jack and the Giant Beanstalk

There was a boy called Jack who lived with his mother and they were poor.
His mother sent him on a mission to sell the cow. On the way to the market he
spots a fine man, who asks Jack if he wants some magic beans for the cow.
Jack accepts the trade.

When he got home his mother was cross with his trade and she sent him up
to his room and she threw the beans out the window. Next minute there was
a giant beanstalk outside Jacks window. Jack runs outside and starts
climbing it. When he got to the top he saw a giant castle. Jack heard a
noise a went to hide. “Fee, fi, fo, fum” x2 said the Giant. The Giant sat down
and went to sleep. While the giant’s asleep Jack spots a golden harp and a
hen that lays golden eggs. Jack takes these things and starts to run for the
beanstalk. The giant wakes up and starts to chase Jack.

Jack’s mother chopped the beanstalk down and Jack jumped onto the hay
field below and the Giant was never seen again. Jack and his mother had the
golden egg laying chicken and the harp. And they lived happily ever after.

When our group practised we were not focusing on what we were supposed
to be doing. But we managed to work things out and get on with reading our
script and doing our play. Things I need to improve on is being more confident
next time we do a play.
